In Pursuit of Inspiration: Iris Apfel

Hello everyone!

I promise that i'll never promise again! haha... I know, i know... I haven´t been posting regularly... but it's not that i don't want to, it's been hectic... I just send my leather bags to a shop in Veracruz, which is very exciting and crazy, since I make everything by my own.
Anyway, today i want to talk to you about a documentary (yes, again a documentary) that is amazing and so inspiring! I'm talking about the film Iris.
If you don´t know who Iris is, let me tell you. Iris Apfel has become one of the most influential icons in fashion and also at the age of 94 years is a businesswoman and interior designer. You may recognize her for her eccentric style and her iconic round glasses.

The documentary is a "follow me around" of her life in the present and also stories and memories told by her and her husband Carl. For me it was fascinating to get to know her more in deep. Her ideas of life are just amazing and a breath of fresh air; since she doesn't believe that everything needs to be beautiful but yes unique, and she is in a disagreement with the social model that the world tell us to follow. She is not the typical fashion icon, she loves to be weird and different. If you have netflix and love fashion, this is a film that you must watch. Take a look of the trailer:

I felt so inspired by her... to be different without shame, and also to find the fun part in everything. I end this post with my favorite quotes she said in the film!

5 Cosas Que He Aprendido En Mi Tiempo De Blogger

English Version-> Click here!

No importa.

5. Encuentra tu motivación y no te rindas!.

5 Things I've Learnt While Blogging

Versión en Español-> Click aquí!

Hello everyone!

It's been a long time since a wrote a post. It's been a little crazy here with the brand and life. But i really don't want to stop writing, it's getting harder to find the time.
Anyway, today i want to share with you 5 things i've learnt and i'm still learning during my time as a blogger.
So, here they are:

1. The blogger community is one of the most supporting communities. I don't know about you, but thanks to this blog i've found incredible fellow bloggers who support me and encourage me. I have found friends all over the world and role models. It's crazy how a writing or a photo can approach people. If you think that the blogosphere is competitive and selfish, full of haters, let me tell you that you´re wrong. I have found amazing people in this atmosphere, and when you have support from other bloggers, that encourages you to keep going with the blog.

Read the Interview i made to my friend and fellow blogger Maya here!

2. There is no "Small Blogs". Believe me, i used to think that my blog was insignificant, but i realize that is not. Maybe i'm not being read by hundreds of people but i can be sure to say is that not matter how small or new your blog is, you will find your audience who will love you and support you. It's just matter of persistence (i know i haven't been that, but i promise to get back in track) and how genuine your blog is.

Check out my most read post here!

3. Be yourself. There is hundreds and hundreds of blogs that the formats and styles are very similar. I learnt that you don't have to follow or imitate blogs and try to make the same things. People really appreciate the originality and honesty. If you are not feeling well to write, just say it! If you are mad with certain situation, say it! If you love something that nobody loves, just love it!

Read my thoughts about fast fashion here!

4. No shame! Ok, this is a hard one for me. If you have followed me since the beginning you probably know that i was terrifying to show my self in photos, and sometimes i still feel insecure. But you know what? It doesn't matter. When i started to take pictures of myself, people really liked it because i was showing my true me and not a bunch of plain outfits with no life. Trust me, clothes need the person in order to have life and attitude, and it's just of matter of time that you will feel comfortable in front of the lens, just try!

Getting comfortable! See how i style the windbreaker here!

5. Find your motivation and don't give up!. I know sometimes it's not easy to write or  take pictures because you feel no one cares about your blog. But that´s not true! The internet world is huge and there´s always someone who really reads you and loves your work. I opened this blog with the dream of sharing my path as a fashion designer and my style, of course i wanna to people read me, but that is not my motivation: " get famous and rich", my moto is to have a space in the internet world where i can express myself and share my thoughts. I'm not saying that i don´t want to grow as a blog, but i think that comes after...

An update in my serie "Mini Creative Director's Journey". Read here!

I hope you find this post inspirational if you are thinking to open a blog and if you already have one to encourage you to keep going!

¡VIVA MÉXICO!: What I'll wear on Independence Day

Hi there!
So as the title says, i will show you the outfit that i will be wearing on September 15th.
Why on that date? Because is when Mexicans started the fight for its independence in 1810. This date is one of my favorite holidays besides Christmas. Every Mexican city is dress with so much color and joy. You can feel the freedom and the party mood. There´s a lot of food such as enchiladas, tostadas, tacos, everything you can imagine from mexican cuisine, so excited about that part!
Everyone likes to dress with our colors: green, white and red! All the month of September feels so patriotic and is when the most you feel so proud to be Mexican (Also when the national soccer team plays), even if you are abroad i guarantee you that you feel that way and that you party hard in this date!
Anyway, too much talking
The outfit that i chose for this event is different of i use to wear. I tried to choose the characteristic colors but in a stylish way. Don´t judge me if you don´t see me wearing a traditional dress, this is my interpretation of the celebration. Hope you enjoy it!

P.S. Sorry for the photos, I have no longer a photographer, my sister left for college :(

¡Hola!

Mini Creative Director Journey: The Promise (English Version) Post #10

I´ve been digesting this post for so long, and today I'm going to talk about an issue that has been going around in my head for months.

Everything started when I worked for an Italian fashion company where one of my daily tasks was to write for a 24/7 newspaper. One day, one of the news that I had to cover was the Rana Plaza building collapse in Bangladesh. If you do not know the story, let me tell you:

Bangladesh is one of the geographical locations where most garment factories are situated, where famous fashion brands manufacture their merchandise. In these sweatshops people work in extreme poverty, without any medical service or insurance in case of accidents. Rana Plaza was one of the buildings where hundreds of men and woman worked in order to bring to you and me "fashion". One day, due to the deplorable conditions of the building, this collapsed, leaving  widows, orphans and wounded.

This situation really broke my heart; to see the news, photos and videos of people crying and shouting for their loved ones ... and all for what? So that you and me could have that blouse or skirt that every fashion blogger is wearing at a low cost

Time passed by, and every time I went  to Zara, H&M, Bershka, and i saw the label "Made in Bangladesh", my conscience burst of thoughts and memories of that tragic event. That is why I made this promise:

"Not buy Fast Fashion" What ?! It's crazy I know, and I know there are some people who think "This is the only source of employment for these workers and by not buying the products we are cutting off their jobs." My answer is, No sir! I will not be part of an industry where "the price" to be "fashionable" is blood ... yes, blood. This Rana Plaza event is not an isolated fact, there are many more incidents in third world countries, such as fires in sweatshops, and don´t forgetting the altercation between police and garment workers in Cambodia, just because these workers demanded better payment and conditions. And also adding the gigantic environmental abuse.

Mr. Amancio Ortega, Stefan Persson and other executives, these people are just like you and me, they deserve the same rights.

Another big reason why I made this promise was because I felt that i was betraying my self every time I bought something from the fast fashion industry. As a fashiom designer I thought; "Mmm I could do this with better quality and design", and at the end I always refused to buy it. If I want my little brand (almost nonexistent brand) succeed, I have to start to support it, buy and use my own products and buy from others who are in same situation as me.

I don´t want to hurt or insult anyone, but sometimes I get so frustrated because bloggers support  these brands, not only buying their products but also promoting them without any benefit in return, just only the garment that they already bought. But if there is a local small brand that wants to get noticed, they ask as a gift the product in order to promote it. Are you kidding me? If you really want to support a local brand purchase their products! The major brands do not need your promotion, we do!

All these thoughts exploded today, and i didn't want to miss the opportunity to write about this issue, and I ask an apology if you feel alluded or insulted, but I had to say it.

I'm not saying that you become so extreme as me, i just ask you to value the effort of many local designers and be reflexive about where your clothes come from.  I just want you (even if i have just one person as an audience) have a little more awareness about the harsh reality of the industry.

I wanna invite you to see this amazing film about the whole situation. This movie was the straw that broke the camel and that prompted me to write this post (you can see it on Netflix)

And finally I want to call to every fashion bloggers to join this promise and write about it in your blog, or just  wear and buy local products.Together we can revolutionize this industry. It is up to us as consumers and as human beings.
